The Gillespie County Economic Development Commission (GCEDC) was formed in 1989. The mission of the GCEDC is to encourage, enhance and promote managed economic development. The GCEDC identifies and develops resources that attract business investment, and provides information to county citizens seeking economic resources, and to those interested in investing in Gillespie County.

The GCEDC Board of Directors is composed of nine voting members; four appointed by the Gillespie County Commissioners Court, four appointed by the Fredericksburg City Council, and one appointed by the GCEDC Board. In addition to the voting members of the Board, there are ten ex-officio directors who are identified by their position within the community.
